i am really excited to announce my project, 50 cups of sugar, to you guys!
come september, my friend amanda and i will hit the road. our project is: 50 farms, 50 weeks, 50 recipes. we will work and stay at small farms during the peak of harvest for certain fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains and even maple syrup. at the end of our week stay, we will prepare pancakes for the families with the fresh ingredients we helped harvest. at the end of our journey we will compile our experiences, recipes and stories into a little book. this is all very exciting for us and this project is already so special and it feels like i finally found THE thing i am supposed to do. of course, we have a TON of work ahead of us in these (less than) 11 months until we leave. we are booking farms, scrimping and saving every dime we can, learning to camp in cold weather, i will have to trade my vehicle in, perfect the recipes i hope to create, and make some sort of almost impossible route in order to get to these specific places during harvest. it's overwhelming, but i am putting everything i have into this. this means so much to me already. i know there is so much i can learn from the people we will meet. so many lessons and stories we hope to learn and tell through photography, biographies journals and recipes. i can't wait to meet america.
please head on over to 50cupsofsugar.com to see what we have been working on.
our kickstarter funding project will launch in may, most likely. and between then and now, we have a list a mile long to complete. if you know of any farms that would be willing to host two girls from texas with two dogs, please pass them along. we are utilizing the WWOOFing database to find these farms, but friends of friends is always ideal.
so stay tuned and watch this unfold. we are hoping to branch out to find some common ground; to find something that matters.
